I'm actually in Cairo, but this should apply equally for Alex Before arriving, you might try putting an ad for a flatmate on expatriates. Once here in Egypt, check educational institutes such as the British Council and Goethe Institute for info on flats.

If you're enrolled in a course, chances are you'll find other students who are seeking, or know others who are seeking, shared accommodation.

You can enlist the help of a local simsar flat agent - though he will take a commission for the service, ask bawabs, or have an Arabic-speaking friend assist you in browsing listings in local newspapers such as Al Ahram and Al Waseet some English listings, larger Arabic section.

I don't know any private tutors in Alex. You can check Al Waseet for tutors, and that would also be a good place to post a free ad for language exchange.

If you want to learn Arabic, ytou had better go to Cairo. Much more institutes, good private teachers and students. I have not been to Alexandria, and on this forum I read it was not that interesting.

So the Egyptian say, if it is just for a day-trip. But most of them told me that this was a fantastic city in which you have to stay longer to get its atmosphere. I have stayed in Cairo almost one week and I have to say that the air is really terrible there, probably more healthy in Alexandria! Alex is not uninteresting, but it's a provincial city whose glory has faded away.

Which does not mean it is not nice. But Cairo is the real thing, so I find a bit strange to go and study Arabic in Alex. But of course it's also a question of personnal taste. This topic has been locked by a moderator.
