Apr 11, Kamil rated it really liked it Shelves: sk-preklad. Nice book that opens a door to wold of therapy done by using kind of best mix between psychological approaches to serve the client best.
Read in translations. Didn't like it. Not my thing. Difficult to read different stories non stop. I gave up a couple of pages before the end. Was quite nice for a long flight lecture but it didn't exactly enlighten me and seems to oversimplify some problems. Also as a psychology student I am not quite convinced that "Gestaltpsychologischer Ansatz" is the best psychotherapy but I guess that depends on your view.
Solid bed-night read! Enjoyed each short story, and found it a great pedagogical tool to teach kids! This is one of those books that, like a person, randomly comes into your life and leaves a lasting mark. The writing is easy and fluid but this should not be a quick read.
Rather, I recommend you treat it like a good person with whom you are developing a new relationship: slow but steady, qualitative but paceful, enlightening but measured moments. If you believe you are ready for such a relationship then pick this book up! If you think you want this in your life but not in that mindset right now This is one of those books that, like a person, randomly comes into your life and leaves a lasting mark.
If you think you want this in your life but not in that mindset right now then add to your must read for later! I hate to compare writers to each other because everyone is unique but I would put Jorge Bucay up there with Paulo Coehlo's delivery of wisdom through simple stories. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be. It wasn't marketed as a self-help book and I had no idea that Jorge Bucay is an actual psychotherapist and this is basically a collection of Zen Master-ish stories he tells "Demian", an amalgamation of most of his clients I'm assuming?
I'm a big fan of Europa Editions and the way this was presented in their catalog made it sound like whimsical and inspiring fiction for booklovers, not cheesy, new age jibber jabber. I couldn't imagine anyone with Definitely not what I thought it was going to be. I couldn't imagine anyone with real mental illness becoming a patient of Dr.
Bucay's - his stories come across as dangerously leading. But I suppose if you had extra time and cash on your hands and some sort of "what does it all mean? Mar 29, Tamara L. Potent in wisdom, a book for any age that can be taken deep by over-analysing and comparing to your life or a light happy read.
As the author mentions it is m this became one of my favorite books that i will be re-reading quite often just to remind me about all the important thing is life. It's very useful. These tales may not always "tell" us directly what is "right" and how to cope with our problems, but they provoke us to look for the way they connect with the situation in which we are. Some of them are perplexing, we can not immediately understand their lesson. But when we think harder we find the connection, we understand the metaphor.
Believe me, there IS what to learn from this book. If you wonder why I put the word right in invert It's very useful. If you wonder why I put the word right in inverted commas, I'll just tell you that not always "the truth" is considered "truth".
Jan 17, Kristina rated it really liked it Shelves: non-fiction , psychology , books-i-own , latin-american-literature. Great set of parables which are mixed in a good manner. I admit that I was never going to buy and read this book if it wasn't a present of mine. I'm all happy and exhilarated about it because it's always good and useful to break the prejudice or to prove it in this case to break it.
I didn't know much about Jorge Bucay and for sure I didn't know that he is a therapist. His skills and experience in this area help packing all these parables in a powerful and suitable parcel which you can bring w Great set of parables which are mixed in a good manner.
His skills and experience in this area help packing all these parables in a powerful and suitable parcel which you can bring with you for a long time. Dec 15, Dion rated it it was ok. This book felt smug and patronising to me, unnecessarily building straw men only to knock them down with simplistic stories. While the book makes the valid point that work is necessary to improve one's situation, and that even then you're not likely to find true peace, the stories offered stick to a well-worn path of cause and effect that goes against what the author professes to preach.
Still, some of the stories are nice, and it's a pleasant enough read. Definitely not my cup of cinnamon apple spice herbal tea, but the people who recommended it absolutely loved it and told me it would change my approach to basically E V E R Y T H I N G I can tell you that it made getting to sleep a lot easier. My eyes glazed over in a matter of minutes and that's quite a feat so well done book if that was your intention. Jan 27, Hristina Ivanova rated it really liked it.
I was light and it was thoughful. I wouldn't say it changed my life, but it definitely was a nice little read. I loved this book! I think everyone should read it.
It is a psychological book but it is written through a story of a man visiting a therapist. In the book you can find a lot of life wisdoms and nice quotations. I loved Jorge's therapist's letter that he wrote for Demian because I could totally find myself in it. Anyway it's a nice book and I recommend it. Sep 03, Timea rated it it was ok.
I really like the initial idea, but I find the whole book just too corny and incoherent. Their 'relationship' seems very forced and not at all plausible. Sometimes it felt really awkward reading their conversations. It's a shame really, the premise had good potential. I won't even bother with the second book. Gorgeous book, everyone should have on their home bookshelf and read time to time. To remind yourself of beauty of things happening inside you through your life.
Thruthfull, fullness, mindfull, motivational, deep and big inspiration. It will make you think in different perspective. Its also very human and easy, enjoyable to read.
