Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world.
If their families have one thing in common, it's that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting-or stealing-whatever they want. No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale's family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother's billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there's no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role.
But Kat won't let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother's will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company's fortune.
So instead of being the heir-this time, Hale might be the mark. Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she's willing to save her boyfriend's company if it means losing the boy.
Readers will hope for another heist from Kat. Carter's style is conversational, smooth, and clever, exposing Kat's wry humor and her steely determination. Daring, delicious, but filled with a sense of purpose. Readers will likely look forward to Kat's next adventure. The book is witty and comical, and you are rooting for Kat throughout the adventure.

Teen criminal mastermind Katarina Bishop gathers her fellow con artists to help one of their own, W. Hale the Fifth, when Hale's wealthy tycoon grandmother dies suddenly-and mysteriously-leaving control of her billion-dollar corporation to underage Hale and the family's greedy trustee lawyer. This time Kat's not after cursed jewels or stolen paintings but the original will-even if it means losing Hale in the process.
While jet-setting around the globe, scheming elaborate break-ins, and even pulling off a "Basil E. Frankweiler" maneuver in a high-security London museum, Kat must keep her feelings for Hale in check. Can she trust her usually steadfast partner? Further complicating this cinematic caper is the meeting of Kat's under-the-radar relatives and Hale's socialite family. With razor-sharp dialogue, twists and tight squeezes galore, and one quick-thinking heroine, Carter doesn't miss a step as she continues to entertain her numerous fans.

I was semi hesitant to open Perfect Scoundrels since I wasn't totally enamoured with Uncommon Criminals. Some of the problems I had were fixed in this novel, though some still remained. However, this book would be a well-crafted finale, but I hope someday we will get to hold that fourth book in our hands and join the gang once more!
I really love the crew in these books. Something that Carter always excels at is group dynamics and it's such a pleasure reading the group scenes, always! I love that Gabrielle and Kat have grown so close. Simon and the Bagshaws are some of my favorite side characters ever and of course one simply cannot not love W. Hale the fifth. In Perfect Scoundrels we officially meet some of Kat's family who we haven't seen yet about time, dare I say!
Also, we get more background for Marcus who is always such a joy to have following along with our group. The villain in this story is in the league of villains in Gallagher Girls final books tbh. They are really freaking awful and it's definitely a darker story than the previous installments in the Heist Society stories. I liked all the twist and turns that came upon our crew and the villain; it certainly made for an exciting, high-stakes game of cat and mouse where the outcome may not always be exactly what you're expecting.
I'd also like to know more about these heist moves that are named by all these famous things like classic lit and whatnot, not just have heist names being thrown out there for two pages. I now basically gloss over them because they don't really have any point to them especially when it's not explained how that "trick" works. As a whole though, I would totally recommend these books to everyone. While they aren't jumping ahead Gallagher Girls in my favorites list, they're certainly quick and entertaining reads that everyone should give a try to.
Nooooow, let's hope we really do get that fourth book, because I'd love to tag along for at least one more epic heist with this fantastic crew! One person found this helpful. This is a great heist story that concludes the Heist Society trilogy.
In this episode, Hale is called home because of the death of his beloved grandmother Hazel. Hale has been Kat's friend and colleague since she stole him from his grand home when he was thirteen or so.
They have had adventures and run cons all over the world. But now, Hale seems to be pulling away from Kat as he grieves for his grandmother and gets sucked into the drama of his family. When Hale's minder calls on Kat to meet with his sister who spent over 60 years as Hazel's maid, Kat learns that they believe that Hazel's will has been switched. The current will leaves Hale the whole of the Hale Company with the company's lawyer as his guardian until he reaches his majority.
Kat and her family immediately begin to investigate the lawyer while keeping the investigation from Hale. Kat needs to call in her whole family to run a con on a man who is already running a big con of his own. I was a little worried that Hale and Kat's relationship would be ruined by the changes in his circumstances but I loved the way things worked out.
It was fun following the twists and turns of this convoluted plot. It was also great to reconnect with other characters from the earlier books in this trilogy. Review: Warning! I have not read the two pervious books in the series and so my opinions may be illogical or plain stupid. I absolutely adored the premise of this series: a cunning teenage thief with a bunch of colorful misfit accomplices globetrotting to steal all sorts of artifacts while overcoming the toughest and most difficult security hassles to complete the mission.
Not to mention twists and turns galore. What's not to be excited for? I've already wanted to read the whole series but for some reason never got to it, but one day I got an urge to pick up the third, I don't know why especially that one, and I did. And for the most part my expectations and the actual reality of the book coincided, it was a fun adventure with lovable quirky characters, seemingly impossible obstacles and a lot of double-crossing. I really liked the colorful cast of characters who all had their role to play and were "experts" in their own subfields in theft.
Each was necessary and served a purpose. And while I was hoping for slightly more humor, I have to admit that there were some hilarious moments starring Kat's "family" with one uncle in particular Felix, I'm looking at you. Plus, code names for some theft plans were hilarious.
The pacing was fast and eventful, not one boring moment, no time to hold your breath and, luckily, I wasn't expecting anything different for this story. I would have just been interesting to see the team crack more impossible cases.
